Trading Platforms Guide

About Trading Platforms: Prop firms typically offer 5-15 different platform options. Most platforms are free to use, but advanced platforms often require your own subscription (typically $30-$200/month) or purchase through the prop firm. Higher-cost platforms typically offer specialized features like advanced order flow analysis, footprint charts, or institutional-grade tools.

Overview

Trading platforms are the software you use to analyze markets and execute trades. Your platform choice significantly impacts your trading experience and depends on your trading style, experience level, and feature requirements.

How to Choose a Trading Platform

Traders typically select platforms based on:

  • Previous experience: Familiarity with a specific platform
  • Trading style: Scalping, swing trading, algorithmic trading
  • Required features: Order flow analysis, charting capabilities, automation
  • Budget constraints: Free platforms vs. premium subscriptions

Note though that many prop firms do not allowed automated, algorithmic trading. If you are into either, that will affect your prop firm choice, not just your platform choice.
